Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State will go on vacation for one month starting on Thursday, July 18, 2024.
For a thirty-day period, Faruk Jobe, the deputy governor, will fill Radda’s position. At the joint executive and legislative meeting on Wednesday at General Muhammadu Buhari House in Katsina, the governor made this announcement.
The governor’s vacation was granted in response to a formal letter submitted to the Speaker and read before the session by the Assembly Chief Whip, Ibrahim Dikko.
In the letter, Radda invoked Section 190 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution (as amended), which authorises state legislatures to grant such requests from the executive branch.
This constitutional adherence shows the Governor’s dedication to due process and the rule of law. While announcing the permission, Nasir Daura, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, who led other Assembly members to the joint meeting, along with chairmen of the state’s 34 Local Government Areas, wished Radda Allah’s guidance throughout the official vacation.
While announcing the vacation in the chamber, Radda urged the people to support the acting Governor.
What they’re saying
He said, “It is worth noting that this is the second time in Katsina State’s political history that a Governor has requested constitutional approval for a vacation and formal handover to the deputy.” The first incident occurred under the late Governor Umaru Musa Yar’adua’s second term”
Bottom Line
The legislative involvement of the State House of Assembly and the formal announcement in a joint executive and legislative meeting shows the collaborative nature of governance. It also ensures that all branches of government are informed and in agreement with the transition.
