The Taraba State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, has confirmed the deaths of two hoodlums in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital.
The hoodlums, numbering 40 had launched attacks on a warehouse belonging to someone named Jugulde on Saturday, Jul 22, morning.
Asides from the warehouse, various shops, and offices were also confirmed to have been ambushed by the destructive hoodlums.
One of the offices destroyed by the hoodlums was the office of Rock FM radio station, situated along Mallam Joda Road in Jalingo. The Maize Farmers Association of Nigeria office in Taraba State had also not been spared.
According to the treasurer of the association, Aliyu Mijinyawa, office computers had been looted by the hoodlums.
Abdullahi Usman, the state command’s Public Relations Officer, PPRO, had confirmed the incident, revealing that a distress call had been placed to the command at around 12.a.m on Saturday claiming that hoodlums were on a rampage, looting warehouses and stores in the state capital.
It was reported that before the law enforcement officers could reach the scene, two of the hoodlums had been killed by soldiers who arrived the scene before the police. Their corpses have been taken to the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Jalingo while the surviving criminals are at present, detained at the command’s headquarters.
The hoodlums had been armed with weapons including guns, iron rods and cutlasses.
Stolen items recovered included: food items, computers, electronics, chemicals and paint.
