It doesn’t matter if its our first date, or the 99th one, us ladies always want to look good for our (prospective) significant others. Every lady knows how nerve-racking it is to think up ways to style the clothes in their wardrobe for that special occasion, and as first impressions matter, what you wear can play a vital role in setting the right tone for the evening.
While ultimately, the goal is to bring out the best version of yourself via your chosen look by looking and feeling effortless, you also want to dress appropriately for the occasion as not all dates are the same (semi formal and formal dates are not the same). If this is the case for you, then you need not fret much. This article will help you in the art of ‘first date fashion’ by helping you out with outfit ideas that will leave a great, lasting impression on your date.
Bonus point: These outfits are guaranteed to make the cut for other special occasions asides a date night.
A Formal Date:
This is the date where you try your absolute best to look divine. Opt for:
Traditional look: A dinner gown that complements your body type. To accessorise, go for elegant jewellery e.g. statement earrings, dazzling neckpieces etc and tie up the whole look with fashionable heels.
Non-Traditional look: A wide-leg, high-waisted trousers with a sweetheart neckline bustier or a tailored suit. To accessorise, go for large statement earrings and a pair of elegant heels.
Tip:
- Adding a stylish clutch to your outfit helps to your confidence and style, and ties up the whole formal look well.
- Consider styling your hair in a sleek straight hair or an up-do for that touch of elegance.
A Semi-Formal Date:
This type of date involves going to the movies, a concert or for a sip and paint. Think comfortable but classy wears in this category. Opt for:
- Jumpsuits: This fit is a literal saving grace when you’re running out of time. Go for a colour you’re comfortable with and accessorise with elegant jewellery (if you chose a muted colour) to elevate the look, along pair it with a neutral footwear.
- Oversized T-shirt over a pair of shorts/trousers: You can elevate this fit with statement jewelry and a trendy handbag, or keep it casual with sneakers and a beanie or face cap. Alternatively, you can create contrast with baggy jeans, or throw on a pair of over-the-knee boots and strut on to your date.
A Casual Date:
Think going to your favourite fast chain restaurant, an ice-cream date, a stroll in your neighbourhood or a park. In my opinion, this is the date where you show more of your personal style more. Opt for:
- A flared dress/gown: Consider an above-the-knee gown paired with sneakers (white preferably) and jewellery that go with your skin undertone. For extra points, add an oversized denim jacket.
- A pair of jeans/skirt with a casual t-shirt: The jeans you opt for totally depend on you. They can be boyfriend jeans, pencil jeans or even bootcut jeans. If you like, bare a little bit of skin with some crop tops or a cutout top. Accessorise with fun jewellery and sneakers or espadrilles.
These are some ideas for an outfit, depending on the vibe of your date and your sense of style. Remember to choose comfortability and to wear your confidence like a glove. Good-luck on your date!
Very well written. I tend to dress in a non-conformative fashion so the tips under listed here are quite helpful, thank u.
I love dressing for my partner especially when we go out on dates. Best know that I’m gonna be that girl in a tight dress with a pair of heels in a good restaurant ????
I like to be comfortable no matter what I’m wearing or the event I’m going for but that doesn’t mean that I’ll dress down. Thanks for the meaningful tips.
