South East Patrol Points Remain Intact, Confirms FRSC

On Sunday, the Federal Road Safety Corps clarified that it has no plans to eliminate patrol points in the states of Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, and Enugu.

This clarification came through a statement by the FRSC Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, countering reports that suggested the corps was planning to remove these patrol points.

On June 21, it was reported that Uche Chukwurah, the Zonal Commanding Officer of Zone 9 Headquarters in Enugu, had announced the abolition of static patrol points in the South East states of Abia, Imo, Enugu, and Ebonyi.

During his initial visit to the Abia State Federal Road Safety Command in Umuahia, Chukwurah mentioned that the Zone has moved from static checkpoints to mobile patrol operations. However, Ogungbemide clarified that Chukwurah’s remarks were misinterpreted.

Ogungbemide explained that the information reported was misleading and could give the wrong impression about the FRSC’s intentions. He emphasized that the operational changes are nationwide and not specifically aimed at the Southeastern states. Therefore, any interpretation suggesting that the FRSC is abolishing patrols in the Southeast is incorrect and should be disregarded.

He stressed that the FRSC is enhancing its operational strategies to boost its personnel’s effectiveness. This includes providing functional vehicles, ambulances, motorbikes, and retraining staff for better rescue services.

The goal is to expand daily patrol coverage and ensure a stronger presence on the roads. Ogungbemide clarified that these efforts aim to improve road safety and support other security agencies, with no plans to abolish patrol points in the South-East.
