Dressed to the nines, a fusion of music and high fashion had a bewitching effect as Afrobeat superstar Davido resurrected runway magic for his friend, the renowned Nigerian designer Ugo Monye, at the just ended 2024 Lagos Fashion Week. Currently trending on several social media platforms, a video of the artiste commanding presence on the runway to the excitement of a screaming audience, strutting down the catwalk not once but twice, sent them into overdrive.
Davido was every inch a kingly presence in an exquisite brown native ensemble from the latest Monye collection, complete with a sophisticated walking stick that simply epitomised the royalty his look was intended to connote. His attire wasn’t just any piece of garment but a bold, graceful statement to the skills of Monye, which might remind fans of his wedding attire, also designed by Monye, in June 2024.
This marks the second time Davido has walked a fashion runway, first in 2022 for the global sports brand Puma at New York Fashion Week, where he turned up in a custom tracksuit. But this time, it was truly African with his kingly clothes and iconic walking stick making a strong reference to being Nigerian, really catching the audience’s attention.
