The Sudanese military commander, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has dismissed Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, deputy commander and commander of the militia’s Rapid Support Force (RSF), known as Hemedi.
General Burhan and Hemedi have been the chairman and deputy chairman of the ruling party’s Sovereignty Council, respectively, since the October 2021 military coup.
In a decree released on Friday, General Burhan named former rebel leader Malik Aggar as his deputy. Agger is also a member of the Sovereignty Council.
He directed the Sovereign Council Secretariat and relevant state authorities to implement the decree without delay. Military commanders disbanded the RSF last month after a power struggle broke out between rival factions, calling its fighters rebels.
Since then, the country has been plunged into deadly fighting and civil war.
