The militant Islamic rulers of Afghanistan, the Taliban, has on Wednesday shown the new uniforms for the reformed Police Force in Afghanistan. The government of the Taliban has decided to move the handling of law and order in the country from its military forces to the police force.
This new development was made known in a press conference by the interior minister on Wednesday. The changes that could be seen on the uniform include a change in the color and the flag on the shirt. The color of the uniform was changed from lighter grey-blue to dark blue and the flag on the uniform was changed from former Afghanistan’s tri-colored republican flag to the Taliban’s Islamic Emirate flag on the sleeve.
Abdul Nafi Takor, Interior ministry spokesman confirmed that about twenty thousand uniforms were already prepared by a local company and about a hundred thousand uniforms are expected to be ready in the coming weeks. He also added that these new uniforms would first be used in Kabul and Kandahar.
The Taliban who are looking to transition from insurgent forces to a proper police force has trained about fifty thousand personnel in short training courses and about four hundred officers have graduated from the long course.
