Pavel Durov, the founder of the popular messaging platform Telegram, announced on Monday that the platform would be taking action to block channels that promoted anti-Semitic violence in Russia’s Dagestan region. Durov emphasized that channels inciting violence would be banned for violating the platform’s rules, as well as those of Google, Apple, and the wider civilized community.
In his own Telegram channel, Durov shared a screenshot from “Utro Dagestan” (Morning Dagestan), a channel known for containing threats directed at the small Jewish community residing in Dagestan.
Following the incident where hundreds of protesters besieged the airport in Dagestan’s capital Makhachkala on Sunday and attempted to attack an arriving plane from Israel, Russia’s interior ministry confirmed the arrest of 60 individuals on Monday.
