Have you ever found yourself admiring those effortlessly classy girls who somehow always seem to have it all together? Their hair, makeup, and outfits are always on point, regardless of whether they’re heading to a casual brunch or a formal meeting. They always manage to exude confidence and style.

The secret isn’t in having an inexhaustible budget or hours spent in front of the mirror—it’s about mastering a few key beauty steps that make all the difference.

I remember a time when I struggled to feel put together. Between juggling work, social commitments, and personal time, I often felt overwhelmed and underprepared. One day, on a FaceTime with a friend, she shared her simple beauty routine with me, and it was a game-changer. By incorporating just a few essential steps into my daily routine, I started to feel more confident and polished for any occasion.

In this guide, I’ll reveal the five essential steps to help you always look put together, no matter the occasion.

Step 1: Skincare Routine

That flawless, dewy look your favorite celebrities often spot begins with a solid skincare routine that ensures your skin is healthy and glowing. Before rushing off to buy the latest hyped product on TikTok though, it is essential to consult a dermatologist so you can be rest assured that you’re taking care of your skin the right way.

Meanwhile, you can’t go wrong by incorporating these 3 steps into your routine:

  • – Cleansing: Start with a gentle cleanser to remove dirt and makeup.
  • – Moisturizing: Use a hydrating moisturizer suitable for your skin type.
  • – Sun Protection: Apply sunscreen daily to protect your skin from UV damage.
Step 2: Minimalist Makeup

I’ll always be an advocate for minimalist makeup. This not only saves application time but it is versatile and matches any occassion from dinner, work meetings, date nights, and even for casual outings. The key here is that the makeup remains subtle, which is one of the ingredients to looking classy.

You can easily achieve this look with these makeup tools, mascara, lightweight foundation, blush/lipstick and lip balm.

Step 3: Hair Care and Styling

If you ask any hair care enthusiast, they’d tell you that the hair is any woman’s crowning glory and they wouldn’t be wrong. This also applies to our bald headed queens too. Your hair at whatever phase it’s at (dreadlocked, braided, bald or worn out in its natural state) should be loved and properly taken care of as it helps to elevate one’s entire look.

Achieve this by
  • – Getting regular hair trims and conditioning treatments to keep your hair in top shape.
  • – Getting hairstyles like a sleek ponytail or donning your trusty wig for when you need a quick, easy style switch up.

Step 4: Outfit Planning

Remember when you were younger and your mum would remind you to pack your things the day before school started or when you were traveling? Mothers really knew what they were doing because now that we’ve moved away from home, we’ve all learned the benefits of planning our outfits.

In fact, I learned this the hard way, and now I plan my outfits a week in advance—that’s how meticulous I’ve become. A sure-fire tip for planning outfits in advance is to use a “completer piece” as your starting point. This could be a statement jacket, a pair of standout shoes, or a unique accessory. Here’s how you can do it:

Completer Piece: Start with an important item that you want to build your outfit around. This could be a blazer, a pair of sneakers, or a bold necklace.

Build Around It: Once you have your completer piece, select the rest of your outfit to complement it. This ensures your look is cohesive and stylish.

Event Matters: Think about your activities for the week (or day, depending) and plan your outfits to suit the occassion.

Try Out the Outfit: You can never go wrong by following this step. Make sure to try out whatever outfit you’ve planned in your head to ensure it looks good and suitably fits.

Step 5: Confidence Boosters

Confidence is the ‘secret ingredient’ to pulling off any look, and there are simple ways to master this;

  • – Practicing positive self-talk
  • – Maintaining good posture and,
  • – Smiling – they do say that smile is one’s best accessory.

Conclusion

By incorporating these 5 easy steps into your everyday/bi-weekly routine, you can achieve that classy look and stay confident in any situation you find yourself in.
