Nigeria’s David Adeleke, aka Davido, who just recently nominated for a Grammy award has described the creation of the Best African Music Performance category at the Grammys as “God’s timing.”
In an interview he had with France 24, the singer was asked whether the addition of an African music category at the Grammys was timely or not, and he had responded with: “Its God’s timing.”
He also added that the African music and culture had always been prominent, but it was just starting to receive global attention.
The interviewer/host had asked: “What do you think about the new category: the Best African Music Performance that has now been added to the Grammy Awards, late to the party or right on time?”
Davido had responded, “God’s timing is the best. African music has been prominent for years, so if you’re asking me if we should have gotten worldwide recognition a long time ago? Then yeah, definitely. But things take time. And like I said, God’s timing is the best.
“I am really happy about this new category, not just for myself but for my fellow nominees. It’s very beautiful given that people back home can produce African music and win a Grammy too. That’s really amazing to see. So I would say this is God’s timing, I wouldn’t say it came late.”
