In a dramatic turn of events, the Syrian government has collapsed following a swift and decisive offensive by anti-regime forces, marking the end of President Bashar al-Assad’s 24-year rule.

Assad has officially relinquished power and left Syria, as confirmed by a Russian foreign ministry statement on Sunday. While his precise location remains undisclosed, Moscow made it clear it played no part in the negotiations that led to his departure.

Russia’s Strategic Response

Russia, a key ally of Assad throughout the Syrian conflict, has adopted a cautious stance. The foreign ministry stated that Moscow maintains communication with all Syrian opposition groups, urging all parties to avoid further violence. Meanwhile, Russia’s military bases in Syria have been placed on high alert, though officials indicate no immediate threats to their operations.

Iran Watches Closely

Iran, another long-time supporter of Assad, emphasized its commitment to monitoring developments in Syria. In a carefully worded statement, Tehran reiterated that Syria’s future must be shaped by its people, free from foreign interference or destructive external forces.

Rebels Seize the Moment

The Syrian opposition coalition celebrated the regime’s fall as the dawn of a new era. “The great Syrian revolution has entered a new chapter,” the coalition declared. “We now move from the struggle to overthrow Assad to the challenge of building a united Syria worthy of its people’s sacrifices.”

A curfew has been imposed nationwide, effective from 4 p.m. to 5 a.m., as rebels focus on establishing a transitional governing body.

A Glimpse of Stability Amid Uncertainty

Syria’s Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali, who remains in the country, pledged cooperation and support for a peaceful transition. “I am here in my home,” Jalali announced, signaling his willingness to ensure public institutions continue functioning smoothly. “My priority is security and stability for our citizens.”

A Fragile Birth of “Great Syria”

As Syria enters an uncharted phase, the nation faces monumental challenges. The opposition’s vision for a unified and prosperous future will be tested against the fractured realities of a country ravaged by years of conflict. For now, the Syrian people stand at the crossroads of hope and uncertainty, tasked with rebuilding a nation from the ruins of dictatorship.
