Hanks Anuku, a well-known Nollywood actor, revealed that a viral video falsely depicting him as mentally unstable severely damaged his career and brought him personal distress.
In 2022, a video circulated online showing Anuku in tattered clothing, seemingly talking to himself, leading many to believe he was mentally unwell. Soon after the video spread, Nollywood actress Shan George refuted these claims, assuring the public that Anuku was “not insane” as widely speculated.
Hanks Anuku clarified that the video circulating online was taken during a movie shoot, expressing frustration that it was being used to harm his reputation. He revealed in a recent interview that the aftermath of the video led to the loss of friendships and job opportunities, emphasizing that he was merely portraying a character as required by the film’s script.
Anuku further mentioned that he experienced anguish and felt devastated by the fact that someone could treat him that way.
“I was trying to get into character for a role I was going to play, a madman role. Someone who was not in his correct senses or right frame of mind,” he said.
“So I had to go naturally visit the environment on how I would play it in that same neighborhood. I was just showing the way the director wanted me to do it, meditating and getting into character.
“I lost friends, producers no longer contacted me for jobs. I lost a lot of money, I lost jobs, I was jobless. People did not care about me. It was God who directed my footsteps to a good soul. I went through pain, if you were in my shoes you would feel it. I was heartbroken for these people to do this to me.”
