Dr. Geidam Bulama, the primary medical director of Gubio General Hospital in Borno State, was kidnapped in March 2022 by the Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP). He has since been freed.
When ISWAP stormed Gubio Local Government Area, which is around 70 kilometers from Maiduguri, Bulama was kidnapped the previous year.
According to a report, Zagazola Makama, a security analyst and counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, claimed that during Bulama’s kidnapping, the rebels promised his wife that they wouldn’t murder him.
Many months were reportedly spent by Bulama treating wounded fighters and their families after the militants transported him and other kidnapped victims to the outskirts of Lake Chad.
According to a source, Mr. Bulama was released as a result of the state administration and security services’ efforts.
Bulama was relocated to Maiduguri shortly after his release when he met up with his family.
