Nigeria was fully represented on Thursday night as Leicester City were held 2-2 by Napoli in a Group C Europa League Matchday 1 encounter at the King Power Stadium with as many as four players playing starring roles in the game.
Napoli’s Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen, pulled a goal back for his side in the 69th minute to reduce the tally, four minutes after compatriot Kelechi Iheanacho made an exquisite pass for Harvey Barnes to increase the tally to two.
With just three minutes to full time, the former Lille of France marksman drew level with his second of the night, heading home Matteo Politano’s inch-perfect cross to the dismay of Leicester City fans.
Osimhen’s international teammate, Wilfred Ndidi, who’d had an excellent game was sent off by referee Tiago Martins for a second bookable offence in extra time.
He was already on a yellow card copped in the first half for stamping on Andre Anguissa, and will now miss Leicesters’ next game away at group leaders Legia Warszawa who defeated Spartak Moscow away earlier in the day.
The fourth Nigerian player on Leicester’s roster, Lookman Ademola, came on for Zambia’s Patson Daka who saw his goal celebration cut shot and ruled for offside after VAR checks.
