On March 21, the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPC Ltd) will start drilling the first oil well in Obi/Keana Nasarawa State.
Mallam Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., stated during a courtesy visit to Governor Abdullahi Sule in Lafia that the corporation began exploratory activities in the state in 2010.
Kyari stated that the exploration would not be limited to the Obi/Keana area.
The NNPC chairman praised the government and people of Nasarawa State for their cooperation and support thus far and called for its continuation.
He stated that the corporation will continue to do its utmost to provide immediate value to the host community and, eventually, to the wider society whenever commercial quantities of oil were discovered.
Sule responded by thanking the NNPC boss and his staff for their visit as well as the work being done in the state.
Sule recognized insecurity as a major hurdle to oil exploration in the country, urging residents to preserve peace and support the corporation for the project to succeed.
He expressed confidence that the drilling of the oil well, dubbed “Ebenyi-A,” would be the first in the country’s North Central zone, bringing numerous benefits to the state.
