The United States has expressed deep concern over reports that the Sudanese paramilitary Rapid Support Forces –RSF, have heightened the rate of shelling in South Darfur and Omdurman, according to a report by the State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller on Wednesday, October 18.
The conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF began on April 15 over tensions attributed to a proposed transition to civilian rule. It has destroyed the capital city, Khartoum and has spurred ethnically driven attacks in Darfur.
The United States had urged called the RSF to immediately cease and desist the shelling of civilian neighborhoods and to instead, protect civilians.
