Yesterday night, a tragic incident occurred when a speeding Mercedes Benz SUV, carrying two passengers, collided with a stationary truck, resulting in a fire that claimed the lives of all three occupants. The accident happened at Mandilas bus-stop, iyana isolo, off oshodi-apapa expressway.

An eyewitness, Mr. Abdulfatai Wasiu, blamed the fatalities on the SUV driver’s excessive speed before the collision with the truck. A male adult in the car was severely burned and died due to his injuries from the impact.

Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), confirmed the tragic incident.

“Upon arrival at the scene at 11:38pm, an accident involving a Mercedes Benz SUV with an unknown registration number and a truck conveying a 40 feet container was encountered.

“Preliminary investigation carried out upon arrival at the scene revealed that the SUV collided into the truck due to over speeding.

“The impact of this collision resulted in a fire outbreak from the car engine,” Oke-Osanyitolu narrated.

Following the accident, emergency response teams, including the Fire unit, Lagos State Rescue and Fire Service, State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Nigeria Police, and Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), promptly arrived at the scene. They secured the area, extinguished the fire, and safely removed the victims. After clearing the wreckage and evacuating the victims, normal traffic flow was restored in the area by 9 a.m. on Monday and the remains have been taken to the morgue.
