A gunmen attack has left three police officials of the Abia State Police Command attached to the Criminal Investigation Department -SCID, fighting for their lives.
The gunmen carried out the attack on Wednesday evening, September 21, while the operatives were in front of the SCID office situated in Umuagu, Ugwunchara, in Umuahia North local government area, carrying out a stop and search operation.
While one of the police operatives on duty was gravely macheted, his other colleagues got serious bullet injuries. However, the injured officers were quickly rushed to an unidentified hospital where they are receiving medical attention. Investigations have revealed that the weapons of the policemen had been carted away by the gunmen who were dressed in mufti.
Abia Police spokesman Geoffrey Ogbonna has already confirmed the incident saying;
“The attack was on the men doing stop and search in front of the State CID. Two injured. Efforts are in place to unravel the identities of the perpetrators to arrest them.”
