President Bola Tinubu has left Abuja for Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, to attend the eighth-day prayer in honour of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona.

This was confirmed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) by Dada Olusegun, Special Assistant to the President on Social Media.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has left Abuja for Ijebu-Ode to attend the eighth-day prayer ceremony for the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona,” Olusegun wrote.

A Monarch’s Legacy

The late monarch, who died on July 13 at the age of 91, was buried the following day in Ijebu-Ode according to Islamic rites. His death ended a 65-year reign, making him one of the longest-serving traditional rulers in Nigeria.

Ijebu-Ode on High Alert

Ahead of the ceremony, security measures have been strengthened across Ijebu-Ode, especially on roads leading to Dipo Dina International Stadium, the Awujale’s Palace, and his private residence in Igbeba.

The prayer is expected to draw several dignitaries, including Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and other top officials.
