Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu has stated that court orders announced with the aim of diminishing Nigeria’s democracy would no longer be allowed.
Tinubu made this statement while speaking on the country’s Democracy Day being celebrated today, on Monday, June 12.
While addressing the citizens of the country on Monday, Tinubu had remarked that the 2023 general elections had displayed that the spirit of democracy was truly alive in Nigeria, as today’s winners could easily be tomorrow’s losers and vice versa.
In the aftermath of the February 25 elections, disgruntled politicians who felt that they had been cheated out of their victories have obtained court orders to upturn the electoral victories of opponents and occupy offices.
This has led to contradictory court orders being issued on the elections, leaving the public perplexed. But Tinubu has stated that “illegal court orders” will not be condoned.
