In his acceptance speech, President Tinubu emphasized the need for member states to fulfill their financial commitments to ECOWAS to effectively tackle security challenges in the region.
He stressed that substantial financial resources are crucial to operationalize the ECOWAS Standby Force (ESF) and combat terrorism, banditry, and violent extremism.
President Tinubu also appointed the President of Senegal to join in the mediation with Burkina Faso, Niger, and Chad. He urged ECOWAS member states to unite and develop innovative approaches to unlock the region’s economic potential and promote prosperity.
The Nigerian President acknowledged the economic hurdles hindering progress in the region and stressed the need for partnerships, investment, and infrastructure development.
He also offered to share Nigeria’s expertise in counter-terrorism, declaring the Nigerian National Counter Terrorism Center (NCTC) as a regional center for capacity building and training for ECOWAS member states.
