Picture this, you’re scrolling through Instagram or looking at street style photos from various fashion weeks on Pinterest, or even thumbing through a glossy fashion magazine at home and you abruptly stop, fixated on a particular outfit.
There’s no denying that there are certain clothing items that seem to stand out from the rest. These clothes draw the human eye to them, giving an illusion of it being brighter than everything else pictured nearby.
Have you ever taken a picture with your friends and afterwards, when you examine the photo, you wonder why your cool outfit didn’t look as put together on camera, as it did in real life? There’s an explanation for this.
Simply put, your clothes were not photogenic enough. Yes, you read that right, photogenic clothes do exist. Sometimes the problem lies in the camera and other times, it might be your outfit.
Don’t fret though, there are plenty of staple fashion pieces, some of which are outlined in this article, that will photograph flatteringly well.
Granted, there are different body types and the specific outfits that go with them. But there are a few essential styles that works wonders on everyone. Find out below:
1. Wide-Leg Trousers:
Trust me on this one. It is so much more flattering than skinny jeans. This is because if tends to skim your hips and often gives the illusion of longer legs. When buying this type of trousers, opt for one that just touches (skims) the floor and is high waisted to give you even more length in your pictures.
2. Fitted Sweater:
You can’t ever go wrong with a form-fitting sweater, irrespective of your body type. When selecting this clothing item for taking pictures, go for a lighter colour as darker hue tend to make one look bulky. Additionally, a simple fitted sweater helps to soften any flashy accessories or shoes you may have on at the moment. A win in my books.
3. Straight-Leg Jeans:
Not only is this jean type fashionable thought-out the year, it adds length to your legs. I also love that it makes one look put together even with an old top on.
To style this look perfectly, choose a pair that is high-waisted (to elongate the lower half of your body) and tuck in your top if its longer than your navel, or better yet, choose a cropped top so it doesn’t extend past the waistline.
4. Midi Skirt:
I’m yet to see the body type that looks bad in this skirt. It is a timeless fashion piece that works well for pictures. For an extreme-slimming effect, try a minimalist slip skirt.
Style this skirt with a form-fitting top, and a pair of heels (especially if you’re on the shorter side).
5. A Sleek Blazer:
What is more stylish and good-looking than a blazer? A nicely structured blazer has been proven effective for making one’s frame look lithe —something you’re no doubt going for when taking pictures.
Nice one!
