Tottenham have relieved Thomas Frank of his role as head coach after their 16th place in the Premier League was confirmed post the 2-1 loss at home to Newcastle United on Tuesday.

Previously at Brentford, the Dane, aged 51, who was appointed in June 2025, only lasted a few months following a string of poor results. Spurs, in a statement, reiterated that the board had supported Frank in the rebuilding process, but due to the lack of progress, they decided a change was necessary. They also expressed their gratitude towards Frank for his dedication and wished him well in the future.

Frank had taken over from Ange Postecoglou, who, apart from winning the Europa League, was also sacked after managing the team, ending the league in 17th place. But it was clear that Frank was not able to stop the slide of the team as he only won seven of his 26 league matches, drew eight, and lost 11. What hurt the most was their poor home performances only two wins out of 13 games and in addition, heavy defeats to rivals and early domestic cup exits.

With his sacking, Frank has thus become the fifth permanent manager at Tottenham since Mauricio Pochettino’s departure in 2019. The Argentine, who is currently a frontrunner among the candidates for the return, along with Oliver Glasner, Xabi Alonso, and Marco Silva, awaits being finally selected as Spurs embark on their new managerial search for stability in the dugout.
