FC Vitebsk of the Belarusian Premier League have confirmed that Nigerian forward Kelvin Odenigbo, 20, has been found dead after drowning in the Lake Belae, Pastavy District, Belarus.
“The football club “Vitebsk” reports that on June 5, 2021, on the lake “Beloye”, in the area of the tourist base “Verasy”, OSVOD employees found the drowned Kelvin Odenigbo,”
read an official statement via the club’s website.
The club have also assured family and friends of the deceased “we will publish all official information as it becomes available,” surrounding the 20-year-old’s demise.
“We express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the football player, as well as to all the fans of the team,” concluded the statement.
Odenigbo, who joined the Visseblyane, initially on loan, from Nigerian second division side NAF Rockets FC – the club where he started his career – made four appearances and contributed one assist during the just concluded 2020-21 season, before signing a permanent deal.
