At least 28 people have died after a bus swerved into a river in southern Ethiopia on Wednesday. The accident had seriously injured 19 others, according to the local authorities.
The incident is said to have happened in Wolaita, a town about 400 kilometres (around 250 miles) south of the capital Addis Ababa.
Meanwhile, local officials had said on Facebook that “So far, 28 people have died in the accident and 19 others have been seriously injured,”
As at the time of filing this report, there was little additional information regarding this incident, including the total number of passengers on board, but the authorities have said that search operations were still ongoing.
Pictures posted online revealed that the roof –badly deformed by the impact– had been ripped off the entire top of the bus.
The images also showed the bus nos lying in the river, having apparently skidded down a long, steep slope.
