Trent Alexander-Arnold has reportedly rejected another Liverpool contract extension as he reaches closer to a free move to Real Madrid.
Alexander-Arnold’s current contract runs until 2025 meaning he is the latest key Liverpool star to leave his future up in the air after Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. The Reds are hopeful of new deals for Salah and Van Dijk, but the omens are less good over Alexander-Arnold, whose move to Madrid is understood to be “99% done”.
The 25-year-old has decided to leave Anfield and has dismissed Liverpool’s latest contract offer, revealing there is no chance he will change his mind, according to MARCA. It has been reported that he already has an agreement to personal terms with Madrid but has not yet signed a formal pre-contract.
Should the move go through, it would put Alexander-Arnold in direct competition with Dani Carvajal, the long serving right-back who has continued to fight to keep his place in the first team in spite of injury problems.
Liverpool, on the other hand, will have to seek a replacement. Playmaker Conor Bradley has done well filling the role but new boss Arne Slot might be out to recruit an older head, with Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong named as one of several names mentioned with a switch to Merseyside.
