The Taraba Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Jalingo, Taraba State, had on Monday, September 18, revoked the victory of Nuhu Akila, a candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party-PDP.
The two candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Batulu Mohammed, for the Gashaka State Constituency and Abel Peter for the Mbamnga Constituency, have both retained their seats.
The Tribunal led by Justice Benson Ogbu had waived the two cases against the elected members of the APC at the Taraba State House of Assembly while a petition against Akila of the PDP was permitted in favour of the petitioner, Emmanuel George of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The presiding judge had in a late night ruling, directed for the certificate of return to be retrieved from Akila and returned to the APC candidate, Emmanuel George.
The suits that had been instituted at the Tribunal were set against Batulu Mohammed of the APC for Gashaka State Constituency by PDP’s Umar Gayam and Emma Bongo against Abel Peter of the APC for Mbamnga State Constituency.
The petitions were filed on two grounds and they include: non-qualification and non-compliance to the Electoral Act which were cancelled by the Tribunal.
Meanwhile, an elated Emmanuel George has expressed his delight over the judgement, proclaiming that the true winner of the election had been affirmed.
