Rotimi Sankore was a development and policy expert, journalism trainer, and human rights advocate who dedicated his life to driving social, political, and economic change in Africa. As the Executive Director and Editor-in-Chief of the Africa Centre for Development Journalism, he provided communication support to organizations striving for transformation across the continent.
Additionally, Sankore served as the Editorial Board Chair of the Nigeria Info Radio Group, part of the AIM Media Group, overseeing stations in major cities such as Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt, and Onitsha.
Kadaria Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of RadioNow 95.3FM, announced Sankore’s death in a heartfelt Facebook post, highlighting his impact on the nation and honoring his life’s work.
Ahmed described Sankore as a veteran journalist and development data expert who was deeply passionate about addressing Nigeria’s challenges. She praised his ability to analyze data expertly, using his insights to understand events and predict trends, particularly avoidable ones.
“Rotimi’s passion for Nigeria allowed him to be honest about the country’s problems and offer solutions. He worked tirelessly to ensure that government officials, policymakers, and ordinary Nigerians could understand what the data revealed and how it could guide decision-making,” Ahmed wrote.
Ahmed concluded that Sankore’s work was insightful and significant, forming a lasting legacy. His death represents a tremendous loss, and he will be deeply missed.
