According to the Defence Headquarters, during the last week, forces conducting operations across the nation killed 171 terrorists, detained 302 criminals, and freed 134 hostages.

According to the report, 25 oil thieves were detained and 799,400 litres of stolen crude oil and 151,150 litres of unlawfully refined diesel were found by troops conducting an operation in the Niger Delta region.

This was said in a statement released by the military high command on Friday, August 23, via Maj-Gen Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations.

During various operations, troops seized 84 firearms and 1,499 rounds of ammunition from criminals, according to the statement.

According to the statement, the weapons and ammunition confiscated included one PKT gun, one G3 rifle, three AK49 rifles, 44 AK47 rifles, 10 manufactured rifles, 18 dane guns, 10 pump action guns, four locally built pistols, 18 AK47 magazines, two FN magazines, one smoke grenade, and one bandolier.

Others are 843 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 506 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 60 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm ball rimmed, and 90 live cartridges, among other items.

The military high command stated that forces would continue to conduct operational activities throughout the country to secure the safety of residents.

Bottom Line

The killing of 171 terrorists and the rescue of 134 kidnap victims are noteworthy accomplishments.

These actions not only degrade the operational capabilities of terrorist groups but also provide immediate relief to those who were held captive. The number of terrorists neutralized suggests a proactive and aggressive approach by the military, which is crucial in reducing the threat these groups pose to national security.
