At least six persons have been killed after a truck, transporting laterite sand lost control of its brakes and rammed into a motorcycle mechanic workshop, in Adamawa State.
According to eyewitnesses’ reports, the truck, had veered off the road after a tyre burst at Viniklang junction, close to Jimeta bridge in the outskirts of Yola.
Among those who were killed as a result of the accident was Isa Usman, a traffic police officer on duty at the busy junction. He had been the first casualty.
“We have evacuated the remains of the crushed victims’ bodies into a police van.” Another eyewitness had reported.
Meanwhile, the truck driver had escaped and abandoned his vehicle, sparking fury, as irate youths set the articulated vehicle ablaze. However, the inferno had spread from the vehicle, razing many shops and destroying an electricity transformer.
The Police spokesperson in Adamawa State, SP Suleiman Nguroje, has confirmed the incident.
