Following an assassination attempt on his life on Saturday, Donald Trump announced his plans to visit Milwaukee on Sunday. In a statement on his Truth Social site, Trump mentioned, “I was going to delay my trip to Wisconsin and the Republican National Convention by two days, but have just decided that I cannot allow a ‘shooter,’ or potential assassin, to force change to schedule, or anything else. Therefore, I will be leaving for Milwaukee, as scheduled.” Trump confirmed he would depart in the afternoon.

Republican National Convention

Trump is set to receive the formal nomination from his party at the Republican National Convention, which begins in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Monday. RNC Chairman Michael Whatley mentioned on Fox News that authorities are collaborating to ensure the security of the venue, with months of security preparations already in place.

Response from President Biden

President Joe Biden, a Democrat, ordered a review to understand how a 20-year-old man carrying an AR-15-style rifle managed to get close enough to shoot at Trump from a rooftop, despite the former president having lifetime protection from the U.S. Secret Service. Biden emphasized, “There is no place in America for this kind of violence. I urge everyone, please don’t make assumptions about his motive or affiliations.”

Law Enforcement Investigation

Law enforcement officials have not yet identified a motive for the attack. Both Republicans and Democrats are keenly observing for any evidence of the shooter’s political affiliation, each side aiming to portray the other as extremist.

Bottom Line

The failed assassination attempt on Donald Trump has not deterred his plans to attend the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. Authorities are intensifying security measures, and a broader investigation is underway to understand the circumstances and motive behind the attack.
