Donald Trump has intensified his push for the release of sealed court documents tied to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, as his Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed plans to unseal grand jury transcripts as early as Friday. The move comes amid mounting pressure from Trump supporters and US media, who have demanded transparency about Epstein’s alleged client list—a claim the Justice Department has previously dismissed.

The controversy deepened after the Wall Street Journal reported that Trump’s name appeared on a 2003 personal note to Epstein, described as “bawdy” and suggestive. The former president vehemently denied authorship, calling the document “fake” and threatening to sue media mogul Rupert Murdoch and the WSJ over what he labeled a “false, malicious, and defamatory” story. Legal experts suggest the note—if authenticated—could reignite scrutiny of Trump’s past ties to Epstein, though no direct evidence of wrongdoing has emerged.

Broken Campaign Promise? Trump’s Long-Standing Pledge on Epstein Files

During his 2024 presidential campaign, Trump made tentative statements about to declassifying but he added caution about releasing potentially “phony stuff”. However, critics accuse him of delaying action until now, as Bondi’s announcement signals the first major step toward disclosure.

Despite Bondi’s assurances, the Justice Department has repeatedly denied the existence of a formal Epstein client list, frustrating victims’ advocates and conspiracy theorists alike. The impending release of grand jury materials could either validate or debunk long-circulated theories about high-profile associates linked to Epstein’s sex trafficking ring. The process may face delays, as a federal judge must approve the unsealing request—a decision that could take weeks or longer.

What Happens Next?

As Trump fights to clear his name in the Epstein note scandal, his legal team is simultaneously preparing a defamation lawsuit against Murdoch’s News Corp.

With Bondi’s Friday deadline looming, all eyes are on the Florida federal court overseeing the Epstein case. Will the judge expedite the release? Could the files contain explosive revelations about other political and business figures? And how will Trump’s legal threats against the Wall Street Journal impact media coverage? Only time will reveal all
