Josep Borrell, the head of foreign policy for the European Union, warned of an impending economic collapse in Tunisia, but Tunisia has disregarded his fears.
On Monday, Mr. Borrell warned that a very hazardous scenario was unfolding in which fresh migrant surges will leave the nation of North Africa for southern Europe.
The remarks were deemed “overblown” by the foreign ministry of Tunisia.
Italy, which is located just to the north of Tunis, has voiced its concerns about a collapse in Tunisia.
Giorgia Meloni, the Italian prime minister, declared on Tuesday that Rome was doing everything in its power to ensure that a proposed $2 billion (£1.6 billion) IMF loan for Tunisia goes through.
