Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior has said that automation of passport application process will start from January 8, 2024. This means that Nigerians will be able to register and complete their passport application process online without human contact.

Tunji-Ojo had made this disclosure on Monday in Abuja during an inspection of facilities of the Nigeria Immigration Service, –NIS alongside the Comptroller General, –CG of the Service, Wura-Ola Adepoju.
“The training will begin on January 8, the solution will be live and direct for Nigerians to have a experienced something good based on the Renewed Hope of Mr President.”
“We have been able to minimise human contact in passport acquisition.”
The minister had also added that the new initiative will boost the security architecture of the country as well as the comfort and functionality of Nigerians.
Tunji-Ojo additionally revealed that the government had plans to bring an end to the era of people providing fake documents for passport application. It was also announced that the Service had now employed document verification officers across all the local government areas in the country to inspect carefully, all passport applications in the country.
