The minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed,  confirms talk between the Federal Government and Twitter

The minister confirmed this on a radio call-in programme monitored by News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

“I can confirm that Twitter has written the Federal Government that they are ready to talk. As  we have always maintained, the door is not locked and we are open-minded but Twitter must work towards it,” he said.

Lai Mohammed reiterated that Twitter must meet the conditions set, and agreement must be reached with the Federal Government on what contents to post.

He said that “the government would not tolerate any platform that would be used to destabilize the country”.

Sighting Singapore, Australia and Pakistan as examples, the minister stated that regulation of social media is becoming a global practice.
