Evacuations and Factory Closures

More than 27,000 people have been evacuated due to the typhoon and hundreds of factories have been ordered to suspend production, according to the official Xinhua news agency. The storm brought heavy rains and strong winds to the region, prompting these precautionary measures to safeguard residents and infrastructure.

Impact on Fujian Province

On Friday, Typhoon Gaemi struck towns in China’s coastal Fujian province, bringing intense rainfall and strong winds that affected nearly 630,000 people, with almost half of them being relocated.

Effects on Liaoning Province

The Heavy rains from Typhoon Gaemi caused water levels to rise in 40 reservoirs across Liaoning province. The area is anticipated to experience continued torrential rain from early Sunday through Tuesday. In response, hundreds of chemical and mining companies have suspended operations, and residents in flood-prone areas have been relocated to mitigate flood risks.

Regional Impact

The storm, which has already claimed lives in Taiwan and exacerbated seasonal rains in the Philippines, continues to affect a large number of people and areas in China. The ongoing efforts to manage the disaster include both immediate relief measures and long-term strategies to address the storm’s impact.
