The diplomatic whiplash in the Middle East has reached a fever pitch. After weeks of promising the “unconditional surrender” of the Iranian regime, the Trump administration has abruptly changed tack, floating a comprehensive 15-point proposal to end the hostilities of Operation Epic Fury. However, the overture has been met with “withering scorn” from Tehran’s military command.

“Negotiating with Yourself”: Tehran’s Brutal Response

The most biting critique came from Ebrahim Zolfaqari, the top spokesperson for Iran’s joint military command. In a televised address that went viral across the region, Zolfaqari taunted the U.S. President, asking if his “inner struggle” had reached the point of “negotiating with yourself.”

U.S. Begs for Talks as Iran Mocks Trump’s ‘Negotiating with Yourself’ Tactics

The mockery stems from Trump’s recent claims on Truth Social that “productive talks” were already underway with Iranian leaders, claims that Iran has publicly characterized as a total fabrication. Yet, behind the scenes, the reality is more nuanced. A senior Iranian official confirmed to Reuters that while the initial reaction to the U.S. proposal was “not positive,” the regime has stopped short of an outright rejection, opting instead to keep the 15-point document “under review.”

The 15-Point Proposal: Peace or Submission?

Sources within the Israeli security cabinet, who were briefed on the U.S. plan, reveal that Washington is asking for nothing less than a total overhaul of Iran’s military identity. The terms reportedly include:

  • Nuclear Neutralization: The immediate removal of all stocks of highly enriched uranium and a permanent halt to enrichment.
  • Missile Castration: Strict curbs on Iran’s ballistic missile program, the very tech used to strike U.S. bases in Kuwait, Jordan, and Bahrain.
  • Proxy Defunding: An end to all financial and military support for regional allies like Hezbollah and the Houthis.

The “Big Stick” Behind the Proposal

While the State Department “begs” for a diplomatic opening, the Pentagon is preparing for the alternative. Thousands of U.S. airborne troops are being deployed to the Gulf, joining two Marine Expeditionary Units already positioned on massive amphibious assault ships. This “peace through strength” approach is designed to give Trump the option of a full-scale ground assault if the five-day deadline for the power grid strike expires without a signature.

In response, Iran’s Tasnim news agency warns that the Revolutionary Guards are prepared to open a new front in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a move that would effectively block the Red Sea and send global oil prices, already hovering near $100, into an uncontrollable spiral.

A Strategic Stalemate

Trump’s “negotiating with yourself” tactics are highly psychological. By publicly claiming talks are happening, he is attempting to create paranoia within the Iranian leadership and signal to global markets that an end is in sight.

However, the Netanyahu administration remains deeply skeptical. Israeli officials are concerned that U.S. negotiators might make “desperate concessions” just to secure a win before the global fertilizer and energy crisis triggers a worldwide famine. As U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warns that we are “staring down the barrel of a wider war,” the 15-point proposal represents the last exit ramp before the regional conflict becomes a global catastrophe.
