In a significant escalation of the conflict, Ukraine has launched one of the most massive drone strikes against Moscow, attacking the Russian capital with an unmatched force. This attack signifies a new level in the ongoing warfare between Russia and Ukraine.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed the attack saying, “This is one of the biggest drone attacks ever attempted against Moscow. We continue to monitor the situation.”
According to information from Russia’s Defense Ministry, during the night hours, 45 Ukrainian drones were taken out, including 11 over Moscow itself. Sobyanin later confirmed that nobody was injured or suffered any damage due to fragments.
There were many spots targeted by the drones within his jurisdiction, among them urban areas and suburbs. To mitigate this offensive, air defenses had been activated.
This offensive implies a shift in Ukraine’s strategy; hence, they have intensified their counter-offensives on Russian soil. This month alone has seen Ukraine’s military extend its operations beyond its former focus on attacking Russian airbases or fuel depots, after carrying out a surprise raid across the border into Russia earlier on.
Some unidentified individuals from authorities disclosed that some drones were hit over Podolsk, a town located just south of Moscow, in addition to other neighboring places.
In response, the Russian military vowed to improve its air defense system and take necessary precautions to prevent the repetition of similar situations in the future.
The international community is keeping an eye on this situation, expressing concern over the ongoing conflict that is likely to have a global effect.
This comes at a time when Ukraine is still pursuing territorial expansion plans, while Russia continues its military presence within this region. It remains unstable, since both parties are set for extended combat.
