Prof. Florence Obi, the Vice Challencor of University of Calabar has directed that the increased fees be suspended until further notice.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the university’s Registrar, Mr Gabriel Egbe, and made available to newsmen.
Recall that an emergency meeting was held on December 1 where the University management approved an increase in school fees.
The students had reacted to the announcement by organising a serious demonstration that halted academic and official activities at the university on Monday.
The vice chancellor had after suspending the school fees hike said:
“The management of this University is a listening administration.
“We want to assure the students that suitable arrangements have been put in place through positive engagements with the students to resolve the issue.
The management, wishes to also commend the students for the responsible, rational, and civilized manner they exhibited towards resolving the issue.”
