The United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund -UNICEF, has tagged the abduction of 21 children at a farm in Mairuwa community, Faskari LGA, Katsina State as a reprehensive act.

UNICEF also added that the abducted kids should never have been the target of violence, especially by anyone who should be protecting them. The organization had made this known through a statement issued and signed by its representative in Nigeria, Ms. Cristian Munduate.

According to that statement, UNICEF is greatly worried about the abduction report of no less than 21 children at a farm in the Mairuwa community. The abducted kids had been aged 15-18 and had included 4 boys and 17 girls.

UNICEF’s statement had it that the abduction of children, at home, school, farm, or anywhere else was ‘reprehensible’ as they would be subjected to all forms of trauma regardless of where they were abducted.

The UNICEF had then called on the Federal government to immediately rescue the abducted children unharmed and reunite them with their parents.

Recall that on November 3, dozens of children had been kidnapped by suspected terrorists in Kastina State. The children were kidnapped while working on a farm situated between Kamfanin Mailafiya and Kurmin Doka villages in Katsina.

The kidnappers had already contacted the children’s families to demand ransom for their release. A village head from the community had revealed that the gunmen had demanded a ransom of N30 million ie $68,435.
