A few students and parents at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso have sued Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State to court over the relocation of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences in the institution to Iseyin in Oke Ogun geo-political zone.
200 level students of the institution had been directed to move to Iseyin for the second semester in the ongoing academic session.
The suit highlighted HOG/34/2023 and filed at an Oyo State High Court in Ogbomoso has Akintayo Abdulqoyuum Ajibola, Onwi Bassey Edet, Ezekiel Gbadegesin Ogunmola and Prince Aderemi Olude as the plaintiffs.
Other defendants registered in the lawsuit include: the education commissioner, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the university, and the Provost of the Iseyin campus.
The claimants were seeking an order of the court to bar the governor and his agents from going ahead with the planned relocation.
Additionally, they were appealing for the court for to issue an order “directing the Respondents, their agents, servants or anybody under their command to summon back the movement of all 200 level students as instructed in the letter dated 19th October, 2023 and signed by the Registrar of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology.”
Also, the Plaintiffs want “an order of injunction restricting the respondents, their agents, servants or anybody under their authority from transferring all the already established courses from the Faculty of Agricultural Science and Renewable Natural Resources of the main campus of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, located in Ogbomoso to the Iseyin campus or any other campus(es) outside the main campus.”
As at the time if filing this report on Sunday, November 5, no date has been fixed for the hearing of the suit.
