FIFA vice president Sandor Csányi is the latest man to have withdrawn his support from president Gianni Infantino, announcing on Thursday that the exit of its chief operations officer was ‘the final straw’ concerning concerns that have been growing under his leadership.

Kevin Lamour departed the organisation earlier this week, the day after criticising a controversial proposal for private investment and then later abandoning said plan by taking back support for it, following reports from The Times and Sky News that he had been sacked by Infantino for such claims.

The decision has been criticized in a letter seen by multiple outlets, which cited Lamour for his professionalism and efforts within the organisation.

“The final straw was the unexpected departure of Kevin Lamour,” Csányi penned before adding how Lamour was a man operating with a, “high professional and ethical standard.”

The Hungarian Football Federation chief took his seat on the FIFA Council in 2017 as one of its eight vice-presidents, but could now be looking to use this leverage against president Gianni Infantino.

Pressure has been accumulating upon the FIFA president over the course of recent weeks, with the confederations of Concacaf, Uefa and the AFC having come out in recent days to express their worries over Infantino’s investment policy, and a third victory running unopposed expected of the Swissman in March.

However, these doubts put Infantino’s expected success in the March vote firmly in doubt, and his support is faltering ahead of his impending campaign.
