The race for the 10th National Assembly (NASS) Senate Presidency seat had begun this morning at the Red Chamber in Abuja, Nigeria as voting started at 8:45 am on a state-by-state premise, alphabetically.
Nominations had been received for Senator Abdul’aziz Yari and Senator Godswill Akpabio respectively.
This means that the race is solely between Yari, an ex-governor of Zamfara State and Akpabio, an ex-Minister of Niger Delta Affairs and former governor of Akwa Ibom State.
Recall that Akpabio and Yari are both top-ranking chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the former Zamfara State governor had protested the endorsement of his co-party chieftain by the political party and had requested for the endorsement be reviewed but the APC had stood its ground.
Meanwhile, certain APC members had appealed to Yari to drop his ambition to make it a smooth sail for Akpabio but the former Zamfara State governor is determined to fight for the Senate Presidency position till the end.
