Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s manager has said that they cannot afford to drop points now if they want to be strong contenders for the Premier League title this season.
Klopp revealed this in the pre-match conference ahead of the club’s match against Premier League title holders, Manchester City this weekend.
Speaking about Haaland’s performance, he advised his players to make sure that Haaland doesn’t get the ball, as if he doesn’t get the ball there’s no way he would score.
He also said that they won’t only concentrate on Haaland, as doing this might leave their base open for other man-city strikers to attack.
Klopp on speaking on Pep Guardiola, Man City’s head coach peculiar style of coaching, Klopp said that Pep is an innovative man, who constantly sets new standards and always tries to combine physical and technical skills to achieve success. He coordinates his players very well and is always aware of every loophole in the team.
He further admitted that Pep’s squad is filled with the best players in the world, seeing the caliber of people he has on his team.
“That is what you have to defend before you come into the challenge with him so that is what we will try.
“But against City, the problem is if you close Haaland down with too many players then you open up gaps for all the other world-class players so that will not make life easier.
“It’s a challenge, a football problem but we try and find solutions.”
“Physically he sets new standards, the combination of being really physical and technical. His orientation on the pitch is exceptional — he knows always where the decisive gaps are and is barely offside — so many things for making a weekend.”
“(He has) some of the best players around him in the world in setting up goals and finding the right moments for the passes: Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, (Riyad) Mahrez — they are all really good at that so it’s a perfect fit, no doubt about that.”
Liverpool currently ranks 10th on the premier league table with just ten points.
