In a Premier League top-four clash, Liverpool FC were held to their third successive defeat as visitors, losing 2-1 to Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium.
The game got off to a slow start after the delayed kickoff and Liverpool’s rhythm was thrown out of the window by the early injury to Hugo Ekitike. Brighton made the most of the lethargic start and went ahead within 15 minutes when Danny Welbeck scored a header that was his 11th league goal of the season.

Liverpool tried to hit back, but their attack was hampered by the absence of the main forwards. Halfway through the first half, Liverpool equalised due to a defensive error, as Milos Kerkez took advantage of a very poor back pass from Lewis Dunk and, with great composure, lobbed the keeper.
Nevertheless, Brighton took the lead again fairly early in the second half. Welbeck managed to find the net a second time, scoring from close range after a lovely passing move down the left, with the goal being officially awarded after a VAR check.
Against all odds, Liverpool went on to make several attempts, including one fierce shot by Cody Gakpo, but were unable to breach the defense once again. With this loss, Arne Slot’s team stands a good chance of falling deeper behind in the Champions League qualification race, while Brighton, with this exhilarating run, has risen to eighth.
