The recent crises FIFA is experiencing have been exacerbated by two of its top-tier employees making a step away from the plan that had been implemented by FIFA President Gianni Infantino in the past, which included selling away chunks of future World Cup revenues.

Arsene Wenger (Chief of Global Football Development at FIFA) disclosed that the idea of a 20 billion dollar FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) has never been known to him since the day it was initiated. According to Wenger, the idea of implementing FFE must not move forward in any way in terms of FIFA’s integrity, unity and freedom.

General Secretary of FIFA, Mattias Grafstrom, sent an email to employees in relation to last week’s happenings that resulted in a crisis in the organisation. Although he did not mention the name of the FIFA President directly, he assured his workers they will not fall prey to political pressures arising out of the current plan’s failure.

Wenger and Grafstrom distance themselves from Infantino as FIFA crisis continues to grow

The recent attempt by FIFA to earn 4.2 billion dollars, in what it called a $20bn business in which20% of future business operations(competitions and media rights) would be sold to third-party investors(commercial subsidiaries) in the form of shares, failed after the opposition it drew from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and most other federations.

The public outrage that arose from the scheme forced Infantino to shelve the plans, following strong opposition from organizations such as UEFA, CONCACAF and the Confederation of Asian Football.

Following the backlash, UEFA lawyers have given a directive to the world football governing body to put preserve any related records to the deal.

The two are among a number of FIFA executives listed in the notice.
