The All Progressives Congress (APC) declared on Sunday, July 21, that the world has lost a global bridge builder with the death of Nguyen Phi Trong, a Vietnamese political leader. This was part of the party’s goodwill message to the Vietnamese government and people following the death of their political leader, Nguyen Phu Trong.

Trong served as the Secretary General of Vietnam’s ruling Communist Party (CPV) until his death at the age of 80.

The Vietnamese government announced the death of the country’s long-serving leader “after a period of illness” on Friday, ushering in a new political era.The declaration came just days after the government said he was stepping down to focus on his health and had delegated presidential powers to Lam.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, APC national publicity secretary Felix Morka said the famous Vietnamese revolutionary leader sacrificed his brain and other resources to the cause of national liberation and reunification.

What they’re saying

The APC spokesperson praised Trong, saying,

“He was pivotal in achieving independence for Vietnam.” He was also at the forefront of the campaign against corruption and other vices. “Nguyen Phu Trong was a bridge builder for peace, development, and global cooperation. At the Party level, he made significant contributions to the Communist Party of Vietnam’s development, particularly Party construction and rectification. His death, regarded as a massive loss to both Vietnam and the world community, signals the end of an era.

“During this terrible moment, our thoughts and prayers are with his family, government, and the people of Vietnam. We urge the Vietnamese people to be consoled by this uncommon sage’s exemplary life and lasting legacy. “May the soul of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong find eternal rest.”

Bottom Line

Trong’s leadership was instrumental in Vietnam’s path to national liberation, reunification, and subsequent development.

His efforts in Party construction and rectification strengthened the CPV and positioned Vietnam as a resilient nation with a growing economy.
