Users will be able to edit messages up to 15 minutes after they’ve been sent due to a feature that WhatsApp has unveiled.
The editing feature has begun rolling out internationally for the messaging service owned by Meta, and it should be accessible to all users in the upcoming weeks, the platform stated in a blog post.
An “edited” indication will be presented next to messages that have been edited, but the edit history will not be visible, making it impossible for users to see what the post originally stated.
By holding down on a message and choosing “edit” from the pop-up menu that displays, the functionality may be used.
Prior to this, the sole means of fixing a hastily sent message was to delete it and send a new one, notifying recipients that it had been done so by replacing the erased post with the words: “This message was deleted.”
Editing messages is already possible in other applications like Telegram and Signal, and last year, Twitter made editing tweets available to some users. Subscribers to Twitter’s Blue service have access to an editing tool that allows users a 30-minute window after a tweet has been published to make changes.
