Nigerian rapper and music executive, M.I Abaga, has shared his preference for raising his future children in Nigeria, highlighting the country’s deep-rooted communal values and strong family support system as major reasons for his choice.

In a recent interview, the award-winning rapper praised Nigeria’s culture of togetherness, describing it as the perfect environment for raising children.

He compared this to the situation in the United States, where he noted that many families struggle to find time to support one another due to demanding work schedules.

“There are a lot of things appealing about home, especially because we’re already ingrained in that system. There’s a lot of support as well. I feel it’s very difficult for parents abroad,” he said.

According to M.I, one of Nigeria’s biggest strengths lies in its extended family structure, which ensures that parents can rely on relatives for help with childcare — a luxury he said is uncommon in many Western societies.

“You have enough people that can stay at home and support you. But it’s not easy abroad — everyone is a professional and busy,” he added.

The rapper, who tied the knot in 2022, also acknowledged that raising children overseas has its benefits. However, he believes Nigeria offers a solid cultural grounding during the early stages of a child’s life.

He maintained a balanced approach for the future.

“Maybe it’s a thing like early years here and then at a certain point, move abroad. There are some good things about Nigeria that make it ideal for the early days,” he said.
