1,500 workers dismissed by the management of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex, OAUTHC, Ile-Ife, have recommenced their protest over the failure of the management to reverse the decision.
The protesting workers had assembled at the hospital premises on Friday morning and had shut down the main gates of the hospital and barred human and vehicular movement in and out of the complex.
Upon deeper inquiry, it was gathered that the workers were protesting the decision of the management to relocate the venue for the suitability test for some workers who would be considered for employment.
Recall that the hospital management had in February, retrenched more than 2000 workers, a decision taken after the discovery by the Federal Government that the management and some workers at the medical establishment were reportedly involved in job racketeering.
The affected workers gathered at the venue of the test and disrupted the exercise through their demonstrations.
Following the protest, there was a mild conflict between security agents and the protesters at the hospital premises where some workers were apprehended and eventually released.
These dismissed workers were reportedly recruited by the hospital between 2022 and 2023 respectively.
